OUR STORY

THE BRAND

Shoi was set up in 2011 as a result of an innate passion and an urge to create textiles that are aesthetically delightful. The products are rooted to tradition and yet are befitting to the urban chic woman. The underlying concept of the brand is an amalgam of rich Indian textile traditions and a modern sensibility. The crisp product range can be aptly called "timeless classics" in context to the wardrobe options for the woman of substance in the city! The techniques used are seasoned craft practices, harmonious textile patterns and colors that suit any tastefully combined ensemble.

A plethora of hand block printed, handloom woven designs are done on stoles, scarves, sarees, home and lifestyle products. Shoi is an effort from the heart to revive, refresh and reinvent the rich textile traditions that are losing their significance in the urban marketplace.

THE FOUNDER

Shoi is founded by Pallav Chandra, a Textile Designer who graduated from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad in 1982. After more than 25 years in the corporate world he used all his teaching and passion to return to what had first attracted him towards the textile world - Indian handlooms and handicrafts. Under his design and management skill, Shoi will soon celebrate her tenth year of business.

Shoi serves not only as a platform for spreading awareness on Indian handicrafts but also helps create a platform for women and men alike to help sustain themselves along with the art. Pallav has helped in the set up of weaving clusters (units) throughout the country with his extensive knowledge in the craft. His love for reading and comprehending knowledge has also led to NID publishing his work on the weavers of Bengal - "Tangail Sarees of Bengal" which can be found at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tangail-Sarees-Bengal-Pallab-Chandra/dp/6000049854.
